Mrs Dandy It’s looking a lot better you know. Mrs Phillips I couldn’t go out for at least 10 days. Mrs Dandy The hair is marvellous thing. Mrs Phillips When you have it! Mrs Dandy Well yes. ………I sacked her of course Mrs Phillips I should hope so. Mrs Dandy Nothing but trouble that girl. Mrs Philips I never want to have another day like that.
Flashback 1 In the hairdressing salon two weeks previous
Mrs Dandy Mrs Phillips. This is my new work experience boy Johnnie He has a real gift you know. Johnny Right. Let’s get you seated then. What colour do you normally have? Mrs Phillips This is my colour Johnny Yeah – just kidding! Let’s give your hair a wash then. You’ve got plenty of hair, haven’t you. (studying hair) Most women of your age are losing it. My mum’s lost loads of her hair. Mind you that’s probably me and my sister’s fault. All that stress. You come here a lot a lot don’t you. I’ve seen you. Mrs Philips Yes I’m a regular customer. Johnny Your old man got a lot of money then? Mrs Philips Well…….umm……my husband has a very decent job if that’s what you mean. Johnny Right. That should do it. I’m just going to leave you there while it’s drying. Won’t be a mo. (Johnny slips off to check the back door) Flashback 2 In the alley next to the hairdresser’s (i.e. the back entrance)
Johnny I’ve only got a minute. That old cow’s got me working all hours. Tommy I’ve got some really good stuff this time (shows collection of narcotics) Johnny Wow. How much can I offload? Tommy How much can you take? I’ve got a stash due in from Thailand this week too. Johnny Great! Let me think, I can pay 50, so I could take… Tommy Come on John! You’re a VIP costumer. I can make you a special offer. Take 4 and pay just 3. And this is for free (gives him the joint he has just prepared and prepares another one for himself) Johnnie Oh… Thanks… Then I will take 8 of these and this little one. Tommy Just that stuff? Come on, now you have a job, you are earning money. Johnny Yeah, of course, my job. That slave driver pays me a pittance. Surely you get more money in a day than I earn in a whole month. Tommy (after smoking a drag of his joint and thinking a bit) Yeah! Great! You’re a genius. Johhny What do you mean? Tommy You’re going to leave this shitty job and start working for me. Johnny But I can’t… Tommy Of course you can. You only have to do what I tell you and get more and more money ……..and more and more vitamins at very special rates. Johnny But… Tommy Don’t worry I’ll tell you all you need to know. Johnny But I can’t leave this job now. Mrs Dandy is a friend of my mother’s. She would throw me out of the house again. Tommy Forget your mother! This is a great opportunity. I have dozens of people willing to work for me. But I thought about you first because you’re more than a simple costumer for me. You’re a friend. (Johnnie hears Mrs Dandy’s voice from inside) Johnny Fuck! I’d forgotten about Mrs Philips. I have to go back. Tommy Ok. Think about what I’ve told you. I’ll stop by your house tomorrow. (Johnnie goes into the hairdresser’s) Tommy Shit! I need someone soon. Tommy leaves. At the end of the scene when Johnnie re-enters the hairdressers, Mrs Phillips’ hair has turned a deep shape of burnt orange. Everyone is shocked!
